The system registry is a fundamental part of any Windows operating system. It's basically a catalog of references to settings and values for the operating system, programs, user profiles, document types, property sheet settings, system hardware and many other things. This explains why a faultless registry is a key component to your computer's health.
Like any other part of your system, the registry needs occasional diagnostics and maintenance (unfortunately there's no tool like Microsoft Registry Repair built into Windows OS). Even tech geeks like myself who prefer to do all the tweaks manually find it difficult to keep track of all the tendencies and threats in the ever-changing world of computing. So take my advice and do not attempt to make any changes to the registry manually unless you're really aware of what you're doing - otherwise you're running a great risk of messing your whole system up.
Alternatively, you can use PC registry repair software as an easier way to solve all of these complex tasks. An average registry repair program contains tools that fix, clean up and reorganize your system registry. Not all programs are created equal, that's why I don't recommend you to use free unreliable tools (anything that's called like Windows XP Registry Repair or Vista Registry Tweaker) - they are most likely to be just scam and make your system's performance even worse. During my research I have reviewed and tested out the best registry repair tools, recognized and respected by many users.

Symptoms of a faulty registry
If your computer ever freezes, crashes, shows errors, fails to load applications, has a "blue screen" error, or even runs slower than before - there's a very good chance that you need to have your Windows registry repaired.
What can bad registry lead to?
- Crashes
- Freezes
- Slow overall performance
- Unexpected program terminations
- Data loss etc.
Why does the registry have errors?
Every single piece of software you install (including drivers, utilities etc.) makes its changes to the registry. Unfortunately, not all programs take the necessary precautions when making their entries which can often result in registry errors. Besides that, many other factors including intensive usage, system reconfiguration or virus infections have their negative impact on registry integrity.
Popular registry repair tools
Let's take a look at what the most advanced registry cleaners have to offer! Here's our summary on each application:
#1 — PCKeeper. Simply put, it's the best registry repair tool. Besides excellently diagnosing the registry and performing all repair and cleanup procedures, it includes a wide range of extra features. You can use the program on any Windows versions and get unmatched system protection at affordable price. PCKeeper is my personal favorite and I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't got a Windows registry cleaner yet.

#2 — Registry Booster. Undoubtedly, this is a really good registry repair tool with lots of features, but it has one serious drawback: its highly sophisticated design. This makes the tool extremely difficult to use for novices.

#3 — System Mechanic. This tool does everything it's supposed to but the pricing is somewhat disappointing. The extra utilities you'll find in this program are a weak excuse for the high price, besides they take up too much RAM when running in the background.

#4 — RegCure. This indeed may be the "cure" but only in case that your registry isn't seriously ill. The program seems to do a lot, but I cannot describe its effect as "astonishing" - sometimes it's even hardly noticeable.

#5 — Registry Mechanic. Of all the registry repair tools I've tried that did anything at all, this one has done the least. Not that it's absolutely useless, but you'd really expect more of a utility you invest your money into.
